About
We are proud to announce the launch of the Weinberg College Center for International and Area Studies at Northwestern University. The WCCIAS provides the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences with a unified administrative center for interdisciplinary teaching, research, and programs on international and regional issues. It is composed of three undergraduate majors and minors programs and an ensemble of faculty-led research groups.
The new unit is directed by Professor Ian Hurd (Political Science) with a full-time staff of five, led by Senior Associate Director Bianca Jimenez. All are experienced in building active and diverse global programs at Northwestern.
The undergraduate programs include International Studies, Middle East and North African Studies (MENA), and Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS). These programs offer interdisciplinary curricula as well as research, programming, visiting scholars, graduate mentors, and professional development.
The research groups pursue cutting-edge research at the seams of academic departments. Led by Weinberg faculty, they reflect the distinctive strengths of the Northwestern faculty and produce scholarly publications and workshops, public outreach, training, and media features.
