About
The Weinberg College Center for Area and International Studies (WCCIAS) seeks to promote research, education, and outreach in interdisciplinary and critical global studies. Drawing on the strengths of faculty and students across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences, the Center fosters collaborative inquiry into the social, political, environmental, and cultural dynamics that shape our interconnected world.
Through its stewardship of core programs—Environmental Policy and Culture (EPC), International Studies (IS), Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS), and Middle East and North African Studies (MENA)—the Center provides students with the analytical and ethical tools to engage global challenges through historical, regional, and comparative perspectives. These programs along with its faculty research groups and initiatives bridge disciplinary boundaries, link local and transnational concerns, and prepare students to become informed global citizens.
Through its support of faculty research groups, student engagement, and international partnerships, the Center drives Northwestern’s commitment to inclusive, globally connected education and scholarship.
