Élias Hérody

Élias Hérody (he/him) is a French scholar from the École Normale Supérieure (Paris) specialized in militant cinema of the 60's/70's. He wrote his Master’s thesis on the French "États généraux du cinéma" of May 1968 and obtained his Master’s degree from Université Paris 3 - Sorbonne-Nouvelle. He is currently preparing a PhD thesis on the Newsreel collective (1967-1978).
In France, Élias is also a film critic : he is a member of the reading committee of the online journal Débordements and also writes for journals such as AOC, Positif or Répliques.
Elias Herody defends the interview as a critical form : he interviewed many filmakers like Radu Jude, Nadav Lapid, Gus Van Sant or Ben Russell. His interests range from documentary films to all-kind of political related films. Notably, he participated in the organization of the Decolonial Film Festival in Paris in 2024.
